Indecipherability

October 29, 2011

Editor’s note: Hey guys. I received a series of letters from my good friend Nick Patterson over a period of a few weeks starting about three months ago. I really didn’t know what to do with them, so I figured I’d post them on this blog and you guys can help me figure out what exactly was going on. Thanks! ~ Mike a.k.a. ReZips Read more…

The (D)evolution of Non-Homogeneous Structures, a.k.a. Why My Penis Won’t Retract

June 16, 2011

Editor’s note: To all my loyal reader(s?), I’m sorry that I haven’t posted in a while. But hey, what do you expect, it’s me! Aaaaannnndddd I’ve lost another reader (I had more than one?!). But yes, I’m here, I’m queer straight and I’m ready to rant.

Evolution, like women, is a subject that simultaneously fascinates and confuses me with its ironical complexity within its simplicity. Something as complex as an eyeball can be intricately explained through the same process that will tell you why some finches have beaks good for breaking nuts while others have beaks that are long and good for sticking down into (heh) long flowers.

Oscar Update: Nail’d It!

February 27, 2011
Nope, not a dated reference at ALL

Nope, not a dated reference at ALL

Quick update for everybody who reads this (all 6 of you…you know who you are).  As I’m sure you all read, I predicted the winners of the top 9 categories for the 83rd Academy Awards ceremony. And in case any of you were wondering, I picked every single one of them right!

So for everyone who made a butt-load of money off of my picks on their office pools, you’re welcome. For everyone else, shame on you for not listening to me. Maybe next year I’ll try to pick all 24 categories (good luck to me…who can tell the difference between Sound Editing and Sound Mixing??)

As an aside, I personally wanted The Social Network to win every award it was up for, but I’m glad it won Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Score, because it absolutely deserved those two. Additionally, props to Toy Story 3 for winning Best Song and Best Animated Feature, and props to Inception for winning a butt-load of technical awards.

127 Hours With A Social King

February 26, 2011

Hi everybody! (“Hi Rezips v. The World!”) As you all are undoubtedly well aware, The Academy Awards kick off in less than 24 hours. And, much like last year, I will be sharing my predictions and thoughts on the ceremony. Unlike last year, I won’t spend over 2,500 words doing it. Also unlike last year, I won’t be sharing who I thing SHOULD win, as I have not seen all the nominees (though I’m pretty close. Only major releases I haven’t seen are True Grit, Winter’s Bone and The Fighter). But what I will tell you is who will win and who the Underdog is to upset the winner. Finally, I’ll tell you the percent odds I will give my “Who Will Win” winner of winning. Here we go!

Oh, and here’s a link to the nominees to help you follow along.

Poems Ad Nauseam 3: “Dreaming of a Dying Wish”

February 11, 2011

Editor’s Note: I decided to enter a writing contest for my University’s “Unifying Theme,” which is Global Climate Change and its relation to education and the future. This is the poem I submitted. There is a cash prize associated with this, so I’ll let you know how it goes.

Dreaming of a Dying Wish

Peering past the system’s edge

To stand as if I’m on a ledge

All I see are twinkling orbs

I wonder if I could know more.

The dreams I have are unlike yours,

I dream not of the long gone wars.

My thoughts don’t drift to conflicts past,

They do not sit on who fought last.

My dreams are much simpler than this

I dream of but our dying wish,

That I could smell the fresh cut grass

That I could see the seasons pass.

I dream of air as fresh as time,

I dream of something so sublime.

I dream of mornings filled with sun,

I dream of nights transfixed with fun.

Alas, these will but stay as dreams

The future’s colder than it seems.

The bleak night sky is every day

The colors all bleed into grey.

Ironically, it is so stale

No thoughts abound of the tale

We, you see, are not meant to be

We, you see, are not the key

We live among the stars so bright

Our flight to Mars was but a plight

We do not have a home to own

We possess nothing to call our own.

We wander through the endless space

We dream but of our long-gone race.

Our air is stale, recycled waste

This, our eternal resting place.

If you only knew what we now know

You’d stop the fighting, stop the show.

You’d pool your resources, you fickle race!

You had it right in front of your face!

But you didn’t act, no you did not

And now the planet is long forgot.

And so we drift to eternity

Dreaming of what we wished you’d see.

You Won 2nd Prize in a Beauty Contest!

January 28, 2011

Hey guys. Just wanted to let everyone know that our entry into this year’s Campus Movie Fest was just completed. It’s called “Go Directly To Fail” and it’s….well it’s something. If we win/get shown, I’ll let everyone know, otherwise we’ll never speak of this again (like we never spoke of the last entries ever again….wait).

I’ve posted the video below, and below that is our entry for last year, and below THAT is the entry for the year before. Since I am graduating, these three videos are the summation of my college career (not my degree; that piece of paper is overrated). Let me know what you think, and if you hate watching things (and really, don’t we all?) then just skip over this post and wait another 2 months until my next post.

Poems Ad Nauseam 2: “Superliminal”

December 12, 2010

Superliminal

Tim Boyd was a scared child

Warmer...

Warmer...

He saw things that didn’t seem so

In his brain thoughts ran wild

Some were just not apropos

If we saw more than sight

Said the confused Tim Boyd

Anything could be right

Cawed the slight paranoid

Our brains, not our eyes!

It’s plain as can be!

Nobody else will try?

Can’t anyone see?

If you only looked around

Don’t just read written words

Even poems make a sound

Notice the strange borders

Could Tim be right?

Even here, can you see?

Hath Tim stirred a fright?

It’s plain as can be.

Why The Sara Barielles Song “King of Anything” is About a Drug Addict

October 17, 2010

Now, I know exactly what you’re thinking: “Another post? Again? So soon!?” And I know, I’ve been posting way too much on this blog, but what can I say, I know you can’t get enough of me and my amazing writing skills.

Today’s topic of discussion will be about the famous (for the four of you who have heard it) song “King of Anything” by the equally as well-known Sara Bareilles. For those of you out there who may have not heard this song (shame on you) here is a link to the song, and here is a link to the lyrics. I’ll sit here while you get accustomed to the song.

Okay, done? Good. Let’s move on.

Poems Ad Nauseam 1: “Love Within”

June 21, 2010

I have a way with words. I love the way sentences flow, words sound and generally how language can come off as more than just an expression of ideas. It can lead you, your emotions, your inner thoughts. It can also confuse, mislead, misdirect, and other mis-words that generally mean you got fucked over by the author. Regardless, I love language, and I feel that an excellent way of utilizing language is through the art of poetry. I have written many poems, usually funny in nature and always (in my not-so-humble opinion) well written and enjoyable. The idea is that I’ll have a series here on ReZips v. The World showcasing my poems. Today’s poem is entitled, “Love Within.”

Love Within

I wish a lot that dreams come true
I think I want a piece of you
The way you smell and taste and touch
A day is hell and wastes too much

I know I’ve sat here way too long
I’ll go put you where you belong
Through the cold night I drive and drive
To see the sight: you by my side

The lights grow quickly dim outside
I fright to think of him nearby
His tan’s the thing I hate to see
The man, the King, the enemy

His piercing crown juts through the night
Unlike the clown he brings just fright
The moon shines high the stars so bright
I soon will have you in my sights

Alas, I’m here! I see your face
A glass, a beer! Amazing grace
And at long last we now embrace
Your song the past; you’re in your place

And for one small moment as I sit
The background fades, bit by bit
I sing your song, that famous hit
“Ba-da-ba-da-da, I’m lovin’ it”

Because you’re a McDonald’s cheeseburger and I was hungry and the whole poem was about me craving a McDonald’s cheeseburger. So there.
